Frequently Asked Questions

common questions

A minimum of 50 minutes.  However, I don’t watch the clock.  If we’re making progress and I have no appointment after I’m happy to keep going.

No.

Taking insurance is a violation of confidentiality.  The insurance company can (and has) ‘audited’ me asking invasive questions about a client’s life and refusing to pay when I refuse to answer.  They have also limited how long I can work with a client.

Insurance companies have no place in the relationship between my clients and me.

It is your therapy.  I’m happy to make recommendations but all decisions are in your hands.

Typically, once a week.

We begin when you set up a free consultation, call me or fill out my contact form.

Once we get on the phone, I do a short interview to determine whether I’m the right therapist for you.

If I believe we are a good fit, I will invite you to ask any questions you may have so you feel comfortable with us working together.

Finally, we may set an appointment, at which time I will get your email address so that I can send you an invitation to my web portal where you can sign an Office Policy and Privacy Policy document and fill out a questionnaire.

I don’t think of therapy in terms of modalities.

I have the training and life experience to help with most issues my clients present.

How I help is completely dependent on my impression of what will be the most effective method.

In other words, I have no preconceived notions of what kind of help my clients need.

I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist (or Couples Counselor), licensed by the State of California (LMFT License 98803).

I’m also certified by the State of California as a Substance Abuse Counselor.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the New York University, and received my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy With Distinction from Mercy College.

In addition I am constantly training in new modalities.  In the last year I have been trained in Mindfulness techniques, Neuro Linguistic Programming and Brainspotting (a very effective and innovative technique for getting the most out of therapy in the most efficient and beneficial manner).

Choosing a therapist or coach is a highly personal decision. Studies have shown that therapy is only as effective as the relationship between therapist and client. We understand how vital it is to connect with the best fit therapist or coach for your unique circumstances, so  offer a complimentary 20 minute phone consultation with anyone who reaches out to us so we can learn more about your personal situation.

All therapists have their own style.  I don’t nod and ask “How do you feel about that?”.  I ask questions.  I’m more directive.

However, the only way to know if a therapist is right for you is to have a session.  At the end of the session you can schedule another session or discontinue therapy with the therapist.

I am not everyone’s therapist.  I have no ego involved.  I’m the best therapist for many clients and not so good for many more.

So go ahead and give us a call, or send us a message or schedule a free consultation.

It is your therapy.

You decide when and how often we meet and when we stop.

All appointments are held through Zoom

Absolutely.

I take confidentiality extremely seriously.

And I will give you a heads up if we’re venturing into one of the areas where confidentiality lapses.

Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 5PM.

I require 24-hour notice of cancellation to avoid billing you for the session. Obviously, there is some leeway in the event of emergencies.

From ages 18 to 100.
